“The Force is strong with this one!” If you haven’t heard, the hottest news in the Disney community as of late is no longer the Fantasyland expansion…what Fantasyland expansion?
Today The Walt Disney Company announced its acquisition of Lucasfilm Ltd. That’s right, as in George Lucas, as in Star Wars, as in Indian Jones! George Lucas stated had been thinking about retiring in the last four years but before he could he had to make sure that his company was going to have a good home and immediately thought of Disney whom he had worked with quite a bit in the past. He is leaving his company in the hands of Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, who will become the President of the company.
All I can say is, “I have a good feeling about this!” See what I just did there? It was a Star Wars joke for those who didn’t. Lucas has confirmed himself that he and Kennedy were already working on episodes 7, 8, and 9 of Star Wars and that there would be more to come. Besides what this exciting news means for future films, me and every other WDW geek can’t help but let our imaginations run wild as to what this will mean for the parks. Lucas’ creations have been part of our Walt Disney World experiences for quite some time from Captain EO in Epcot to the now annual Star Wars Weekend but can we expect more. My guess is yes and I hope that I am right. In my opinion, the Lucasfilm franchise has always been a great fit with The Walt Disney Company and I look forward to what the future holds!
